Oleificio Dell'Orto Wins Gold and Two Silvers at 2026 NYIOOC
The Campania producer earned top honors for its DOP Colline Salernitane and two additional medium-intensity extra virgin olive oils.
Oliveto Citra, Italy — Oleificio Dell'Orto has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for the Dell'Orto DOP Colline Salernitane brand.
Dell'Orto DOP Colline Salernitane is a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil produced from Carpellese olives. Marked by herbal aromas and a clean, green lift, Dell'Orto DOP Colline Salernitane carries impressions of almond and green pepper, with radish and artichoke tones that build through a balanced, savory finish.
Alongside the Gold for Dell'Orto DOP Colline Salernitane, Oleificio Dell'Orto earned two Silver Awards at the 2026 NYIOOC: Dell'Orto Classic, a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil produced from Frantoio olives, and Dell'Orto Organic, a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil produced from Carpellese olives. The three awards underscored the breadth of Oleificio Dell'Orto’s work with both native and widely cultivated Italian varieties, as well as its focus on certified production.
Founded by Vito Dell'Orto in 1870, Oleificio Dell'Orto has operated for more than a century on the hills above the Sele River Valley in Campania’s Salerno province. The Dell'Orto family has continued to pursue high-quality extra virgin olive oil across generations, with the mill’s evolution closely tied to changes in extraction technology, from early presses to modern continuous-cycle cold extraction.
In Oliveto Citra, where groves overlook the Upper Sele River Valley, Oleificio Dell'Orto’s work has increasingly combined production with research and environmental stewardship. The farm spans about 20 acres and includes roughly 2,000 olive trees, with Carpellese among the key cultivars. Over the years, Oleificio Dell'Orto has invested in machinery upgrades and ongoing experimentation in the mill to refine performance and preserve the character of the fruit.
Research has also shaped how Oleificio Dell'Orto manages resources and by-products. The mill has participated in studies examining olive processing wastewater and pomace, exploring additional applications while maintaining a focus on reducing waste. Oleificio Dell'Orto has also used olive pits as a biomass source and composted olive leaves over extended periods to create soil amendments for fertilization.
Beyond its own groves, Oleificio Dell'Orto has worked with local farmers and provided year-round technical monitoring and agronomic guidance. Oleificio Dell'Orto is certified for the cultivation of organic and PDO olives, and the DOP Colline Salernitane designation and organic certification have served as visible markers of its practices and regional identity.
The 2026 results add to Oleificio Dell'Orto’s established record at the competition. In its full NYIOOC history, Oleificio Dell'Orto has earned three Gold Awards and three Silver Awards. In 2025, Oleificio Dell'Orto received two Gold Awards, and in 2018 it earned a Silver Award.
The three 2026 awards place Oleificio Dell'Orto among the most highly ranked producers in the annual Olive Oil Times World Ranking. Oleificio Dell'Orto is ranked #41 in Italy, #80 in the Northern Hemisphere and #83 Worldwide.
